Garden Design and Consultancy
I have loved gardens ever since running through my grandfather’s garden in Kent as a child. My siblings and I would play hide and seek - the sheer exhilaration in running through the rose garden, finding a box hedge to hide behind, heart pounding as I hid, is where it began.
Being outside, in nature, is I believe where we are all happiest, and if those natural surroundings can be shaped to suit our needs and be an extension of our living space, all the better. It is why my style has a strong emphasis on architectural ‘bones’ - using the plants as structure, with seasonal stars such as grasses and bulbs adding movement and softness.
I am passionate about gardens and have designed many across the south of England in the last 20 years.
Maintaining my own garden in Cornwall has taught me to think through the practical implications of every single design decision. I make gardens that can be maintained relatively easily, without specialist knowledge or long hours weeding and pruning. When it comes to materials, I like to follow local vernacular in the hard landscaping, and use native, low maintenance plants.
“While no garden ‘self-maintains’, I aim to make gardens that can be looked after within reasonable time expectations, and look good throughout the year.”
